On August 6, 2022, the Longboard Festival Ruhr will take place for the first time on the grounds of the Ruhr West University in Mülheim. The Mülheimer SportService and the Initiative Longboard Ruhrgebiet cordially invite all enthusiastic longboarders and families interested in skating to the Longboard Festival. From 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. everything revolves around the topic of longboarding: In beginner workshops (3:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.) children can learn the basics of the sport from experienced trainers. For visitors who can already longboard, a longboard dancing workshop will be offered at 2 p.m. In addition, experienced longboarders can take part in smaller competitions such as the Best Trick Contest or the Hippie Jump Competition and win high-quality longboard-related prizes. As a program highlight, longboard dancer Gui Alfeo from Portugal will offer a show performance at 5:30 p.m. Longboards can be tested and material and clothing can be bought at the stands of longboard shops in the area. Since longboard dancing doesn't work without good music, DJ Yo Scheppert will provide the right sounds throughout the event. The Longboard Festival Ruhr is free for all visitors.

Background:

Longboard dancing and freestyle is about surfing and dancing on the board. Step combinations are combined with classic skate elements. The board moves back and forth in a wave-like rhythm. A fascinating sport that has made it to the Ruhrpott from viral Instagram videos featuring magical sunsets on Portuguese coasts.

For several years, the Mülheimer SportService has been offering a varied course program for longboarding as part of the TrendSport youth program. It doesn't matter whether it's a beginner's workshop or an advanced course, there's something for everyone. In addition, a longboard building workshop takes place every year in cooperation with the youth club "Café Ziegler", where participants have the opportunity to build and design their own longboard.

For the first time this year, the Mülheimer SportService is organizing the Longboard Festival together with the local initiative Longboard Ruhrgebiet. The Longboard Ruhrgebiet initiative has been connecting national longboarders since 2020 and is helping to raise awareness of the sport through training sessions and workshops.
